Street Photography

Images of day to day life - street photography mostly taken with Leica M7 and Hasselblad 503CW.

The 35mm format rangefinder camera is typically seen as the optimal tool for street photography because of its relatively compact size especially when compared to the 35mm SLR - people are less intimidated by a photographer pointing a rangefinder camera in their direction.

Moreover, the rangefinder camera makes "zone" focusing fixed focal length lenses simpler and faster - pre-focus the lens for a distance zone and then quickly raise the camera to your eye to "frame" the image and there is a very good chance that the scene seen is well captured before the subject/s have time to notice.

Of course any camera will do - even a medium format 6x6 SLR will do! Unsing a waist level viewfinder or even a 45 degree prism viewfinder can avoid the attention of subjects in the street.
